We decided to explore top Barcelona events in 2024 that would make you buy the ticket as soon as possible.

Why Barcelona?

In 2023 alone, Barcelona saw 809,007 people staying in its hotels, accounting for 70% of all hotel stays in Catalonia. Although there is no specific data on Armenian tourists visiting Barcelona, there is a reason to believe the flow will grow this season. This sunny city is set to become even more accessible for Armenia travelers with the launch of a direct flight from Yerevan starting on June 14.

We bet your bucket list includes a tour of Sagrada Família, Park Güell, and strolling along La Rambla. However, you should not ignore the unique festivals and events that will be a “cherry on top” of your trip. As you prepare for the tour of your dreams, check the list of unique events hosted by Barcelona this year.

What do you think tourists like most about Barcelona? The answer is not Sagrada Familia as you may have thought. The statistics show that the most popular activity among tourists here is going to restaurants.

If you are planning a visit for this summer, you can join the tenth anniversary of Tast a la Rambla, the local gastronomic festival from June 6 to 9. This lively gastronomic festival has been a cornerstone of Barcelona’s culinary scene.  The event is in the heart of the city at Plaça de Catalunya where everyone can taste the best dishes of the local restaurants.

The festival offers a unique blend of creative and traditional cuisines in addition to a diverse selection of wines and live music. Cooking demonstrations and culinary tasting workshops are also there. Just purchase a card at the ticket office and use it at the food stalls to buy food and wine.

Feast of Sant Joan

One of the most vibrant festivals is the Feast of Sant Joan celebrated on June 23-24 this year. This day celebrates Saint John the Baptist and marks the summer solstice. The public holiday symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness. This is the reason so many bonfires and fireworks appear in different parts of the city.

Traditionally, families and friends come together to share meals. They hold local parties called ‘Reveltes’ on their balconies and terraces. However, if you are a guest in the city you’d better move to one of the beaches where the main massive celebration takes place. Here tourists can watch fireworks and listen to music playing in the beach bars. Moreover, local restaurants put extra tables so hurry up to secure a table for the long night of fireworks, music, and dances.

Barcelona Primavera Sound

While Armenian tourists may not make it in time for this year’s event, we will uncover some details to plan for future visits. It’s an event that we could not miss on our list as it’s one of Europe’s top music festivals.

Primavera Sound is set for May 29-June 2 with thousands of music lovers gathering at Parc del Fòrum. The venue is around a 20-minute drive from Barcelona. The lineup features various genres and you can see it by the list of this year’s participants. The headliners include Lana Del Rey, Pulp, SZA, Disclosure, FKA Twigs, and others. The day tickets start from around 125 euros. You can pick a day ticket or pay for full access to the festival (starting from 325 euros).

European Balloon Festival

Tourists are welcome to join the largest hot air balloon event in Spain, attracting thousands of visitors over four days from 10 to 14 of July.

Tourists can enjoy the flights of over 50 balloons from across the globe. There are both competitive and exhibition flights in Igualda, a small town you can reach either by train, bus, or taxi. Highlights include the Night Glow event, where balloons light up the night sky like lanterns. Of course, there are fireworks, music, and various activities for kids and adults. There are no tickets and entrance is free.

La Mercè Festival

A signature event in Barcelona turns into the largest street party. This annual event held since 1902 celebrates the city’s patron Mare de Deu de la Mercè (Our Lady of Mercy).

During 4 days in September Barcelona turns into a stage for various cultural events and activities. This year the festival is due on September 20-24. Numerous concerts, light shows, and street performances are held in the streets, plazas, or cultural venues. They feature dances, circus performances, bands, and other shows. The highlight of the event is fire runs or Correfoc. There are two parts of this run, one of which is intended for children too. The second one starts at dusk when costumed devils and dragons parade through the streets, igniting fireworks and thrilling spectators.

Another key feature is the “Castellers”, human towers built by skilled teams, symbolizing strength and community. All this is complemented with traditional Catalan music and dances. Save the date if you want to be in the center of this great party. By the way, most of the activities are free of charge.
