Are you looking for information on upcoming events in Armenia? You’re in the right place! The summer is in full swing, and the tourist season is booming. This means Armenia still has a lot to offer to the tourists that are already here or are planning to visit.
While some major events like Yerevan Wine Days are behind us, there’s still a lot happening in 2024. From open-air festivals to food fairs, Armenia’s calendar is packed. Key events to look forward to include TarazFest, BeerDays, and Dilijan Wine Fest. There is always something happening in summer. So, do not miss the vibrant traditional fests and colorful celebrations. Let’s see what to expect if you are planning an unforgettable Armenian adventure now.
Get Wet On Vardavar
Vardavar is one of Armenia’s coolest festivals, quite literally. It dates back to pagan times and honors the goddess Astghik, who symbolized water, love, beauty, and fertility. Traditionally, people offered roses to her and splashed water on each other. After adopting Christianity, the Vardavar became a religious holiday as the Church identified the rose with the transfiguration of Jesus.
Today, Vardavar is celebrated 14 weeks after Easter. This year the most awaited holiday of this summer is on July 7. On this day, everyone, from kids to adults, gets involved in playful water fights. You’ll see people pouring water from balconies and cars. So, watch your way and you’d better not approach the Republic Square fountains or a lake near the Opera House. You will hardly be able to walk away without getting wet from head to toe as it’s a day filled with laughter, joy, and lots of splashing.
TarazFest
Another upcoming event in Armenia that would be loved by those interested in Armenian culture is TarazFest. This enchanting fest celebrates Armenian heritage and the iconic Taraz – Armenia traditional costume. Teryan Cultural Center will host the event on August 10-11. It will showcase Armenian clothing, reflecting centuries-old regional and societal influences.
The event consists of two parts. One will feature a fair where companies will show their products. And, of course, the second part will showcase traditional Armenian costumes. In general, Taraz, once a marker of identity and status, has inspired modern designers and is trending on Armenian social media with stunning photoshoots.
RestoFest 2024
Calling all foodies! Armenia is your next destination for a culinary adventure. This July, Yerevan will host the unforgettable “RestoFest 2024 – The Best Dish of Armenia.” If you once visited the Yerevan Wine Days and still miss this vibe of a street festival, give RestoFest a try. From July 19 to 21, two streets will transform into a gastronomic paradise featuring over 100 restaurant concepts.
Restaurant fans can enjoy traditional Armenian dishes and international flavors. Of course, interactive master classes by top chefs are also a part of the program.
The organizers promise the most large-scale culinary event in Armenia for anyone passionate about food. Discover new culinary experiences, make new friends, and simply enjoy the food culture of Armenia.
Beer Days 2024
One of the key open-air festivals Yerevan Wine Days is over, but there is another fun event to celebrate. Mark on your calendars “Beer Days 2024”! This epic beer fest will feature up to 20 brewers, showcasing both big names and local gems on July 27-28.
Happening in Yerevan, it’s a rad chance to sip on unique brews and support Armenian craft beer. With more than 30,000 visitors last year, it’s clear that this event is a must-see. You can chill in the rest area, enjoy live music, and join fun games to win cool prizes.
Dilijan WineFest
The resort town of Dilijan becomes the next spot for wine lovers in August. Dilijan will host the wine festival that will feature 30 wineries from all over Armenia. After welcoming 4,500 guests last year, the festival will continue the tradition on August 3-4.
It’s your chance to taste the finest wines, enjoy awesome live music, and dive into some cool wine-related activities. In addition to a gastro zone, the event offers unusual activities like painting with wine and a traditional grape-crushing ceremony.
Air Fest 2024
One of the most thrilling events of this summer will be Airfest 2024 in Stepanavan. Mark your calendars for August 26th as it’s going to be epic! Starting at noon, this year’s festival will showcase airplanes, hot air balloons, helicopters, and paraplanes. There will also be educational lectures and panel discussions.
The organizers promise drone demos, aeromodelling shows, and immersive VR experiences. The highlight of the event is skilled pilots performing stunts and maneuvers.
In addition to a fascinating air show, it’s a good chance to visit the picturesque town of Stepanavan. It’s a green and cozy town in Lori Province. You can spend a couple of days to have a rest from Yerevan’s heat. Among the must-visit places here is the famous Dendropark, an arboretum with numerous unique plants and trees.
